How Does a Heat Pump Heat?

Consider a heat pump if you need to heat your home quickly and efficiently. In cooler months, a heat pump utilizes a reversing valve that switches the system from cooling to heating, pulling heat from the outside air and sending it inside your home (up to -15 degrees). When the temperature dips below -15 degrees, and there isn’t enough heat in the outside air to pull in, the heat pump kicks in the auxiliary or supplemental heat source to heat the home faster and save energy.

There are a few advantages of utilizing a heat pump in your home, such as:

  • Heat pumps utilize electricity to heat your home instead of using natural gas or a propane tank.
  • Heat pumps can distribute heat throughout your home since they evenly utilize the whole home duct system.
  • Heat pumps are more energy efficient since they pump out more cool and warm air by volume than the energy it takes to run them.
  • Heat pumps require minimal upkeep and only require twice-a-year maintenance.
